Firearm balance

Version 1.1.0 · on the server since 17 October 2026 (first version 1.0.0 since 16 October 2026)

  • A hit from a firearm deals 70% of the damage it would deal without the mod.
  • Sniper rifles deal 85%: the T3 Sniper Rifle and its four rare variants, the Improved Sniper, the Gaus rifle and its four legendary variants. 11 weapons in total.
  • All headshot bonuses (fixed rifle bonuses, the player’s innate bonus, attribute bonuses) are at 60% of their original value.
  • Bows, crossbows, melee weapons, turrets and block damage don’t change.

Project Z gives players very strong firearms. Together with the Survivalist difficulty, that broke the balance: melee weapons and bows lost their point, and a rifle headshot killed almost anything. The first version weakened sniper rifles too much, though, so version 1.1.0 made them 21% stronger again.

The mod only kicks in on hit, after ammo, quality, perks, mods and buffs have been counted. That’s why the values on the weapon card in game and in the catalog don’t change. On the page of every affected weapon, though, you’ll find a “Hit damage 100% → 70%” row.

An example for an incoming damage of 100 (before armor and before the server’s global 65% setting):

Hit Without the mod On Midgard
Sniper rifle to the body 100 85
T3 Sniper to the head 600 299.2
Improved / Gaus to the head 800 380.8
Other firearms to the body 100 70

Attribute perks and dismemberment still work. Special effects of legendary weapons (burning, electricity, instant dismemberment) aren’t scaled.
